How we began.
Al Furaat Institute was established on March 1, 2019 by a group of teachers who wanted a high-quality dugsi for Muslim students in Minnesota — a place that would meet families where they are and help every student grow.
Qur'an education is at the heart of our work. It is not the whole of our work. We teach Arabic reading and writing, Islamic studies, and youth programs that help students grow spiritually, academically, socially, and personally.
Today Al Furaat serves families across the Twin Cities — from Minneapolis and Blaine to Saint Paul, Saint Anthony, New Brighton, and Fridley. We are more than a Qur'an school. We are a place where faith, education, family, and community come together.

A few things families often ask.
What is a dugsi?
Dugsi is a Somali word for a Qur'anic school — a center for learning the Qur'an along with Islamic studies.
What sets Al Furaat apart?
We are more than a dugsi. Alongside Qur'an, Arabic, and Islamic studies, we offer Summer Explorer camp, soccer, career fairs, outdoor adventures, and family community life across the Twin Cities.
What languages do you support?
Al Furaat serves families in Somali, English, Arabic, and Swahili — meeting students and parents where they are.
Where do you serve?
Our home is Minneapolis, and we serve families in Blaine, Saint Paul, Saint Anthony, New Brighton, Fridley, and surrounding communities.
What is the Hingaad program?
Hingaad is our Arabic reading and writing path. Experienced teachers help students read the Qur'an fluently after completing the foundational text, while also learning Arabic writing and introductory tajweed.
Do you offer activities beyond class?
Yes. We offer Summer Explorer camp, soccer tournaments, basketball, career fairs, archery, field trips, youth nights, competitions, and family events.
